Polymer Processing Academy is a society formed in 2011 with strong representation from the academia and the industry. The idea for starting PPA germinated from the success of the 25th Annual Meeting of the Polymer Processing Society (PPS-25) held at Goa in March 2009. The aim is to have active participation from the polymer processing fraternity around the globe. PPA was launched on March 5, 2011 in Mumbai with Mr. Nikhil Meswani, Executive Director, Reliance Industries Ltd. as the Chief Guest, Dr. T. Ramasami, Secretary, DST as the Guest of Honour, Prof. Takeshi Kikutani, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan the Keynote Speaker and a motivating message from Mr. Mukesh Ambani.
PPA Second Foundation Day Program
17th March 2012, Pune
PPA Second Foundation Day Program was held in International Institute of Information Technology, Pune. The program was marked by illuminating talks delivered by Mr. P.P. Chhabria, Dr. R.A.Mashelkar and Prof Julia King. Dr. Mashelkar talked about “ People, Planet, Profit & Polymers”. The theme of Prof. King’s talk was “ Climate Change Mitigation: Implications for Transport”. The lectures were followed by an award ceremony for conferring honorary fellowships to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour and scholarships to students. The main program was followed by a workshop on “Processing of Polymer Nanocomposites”, co-ordinated by Prof. Mangala Joshi, IIT Delhi, and Prof. Arup Ranjan Bhattacharya, IIT Bombay.
PPA Third Foundation Day Program
9th December 2013, Goa
PPA Third Foundation Day Program was held in Cidade the Goa, as a part of AWPP 2013. The program was marked by an enlightening lecture delivered by Dr. V K Saraswat, DAE Homi Bhabha Chair Professor, Department of Atomic Energy, former Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister and former Secretary, Department of Defence R&D, Government of India. Dr. Saraswat talked about developments in the area of Polymers and Advanced Composites for high-end applications in Defence and Aerospace. He also emphasized that there should be a focus on the development of skilled manpower and the creation of extensive infrastructure and industrial base to cater and sustain the market demand with quality products. According to him the development of materials, manpower, and infrastructure require ingenuity and sincere efforts of Academia, Industries, R&D Organisations and Government to synergize the efforts for a single common cause, which will lead to prosperity and a peaceful world.
PPA Fourth Foundation Day Program

PPA Fourth Foundation Day Program was held in Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, New Delhi. The program was marked by illuminating talks delivered by Dr. V.K.Saraswat, Prof. Ajoy Ghatak and Dr. Babu Padmanabhan. The Presidential talk was addressed by Dr. V.K.Saraswat, PPA foundation day lecture was delivered by Prof. Ajoy Ghatak on the theme “The story of the Optical Fiber” and the Special IPI lecture was by Dr. Babu Padmanabhan on “Power of Compounding”. The lectures were followed by an award ceremony for conferring honorary fellowships to the Chief Guest and the IPI Speaker.
Chief Guest, Fifth Foundation Day
14th March 2016 , Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore
The 5th Foundation Day Program of the Polymer Processing Academy (PPA), held on the 14th of March 2016 was conducted at the prestigious Satish Dhawan auditorium at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. The event co-hosted by STEER and IISc, was presided over by Dr. K. Kasturirangan, Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University. The Foundation Day saw over 180 participants including aspiring students, academia and the industry with participation from companies like Reliance, Coca Cola, Bosch, Sidel, St. Johns Research Institute, Dr. Reddy’s, Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) and Milacron to name a few. Participants had the privilege of listening to Dr. Kasturirangan as he took them on a journey of his days at ISRO, while drawing parallels as to how the Indian Space Programme was greatly benefitted by polymer science. The Foundation Day lecture was delivered by Mr. B. V. R Reddy, Executive Chairman, Cyient, Chairman, Nasscom and Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIT Hyderabad who chose to leave the audience with a glimpse into the future with an engaging presentation on 3D printing. The 5th Foundation Day program also saw Dr. Kasturirangan and Mr. Mohan Reddy conferred with the prestigious Honorary Fellowship to the PPA by Professor Ashok Misra.
